At Alvéole, safety, for people and bees, is always top of mind. While our honeybees are gentle and non-aggressive, we know that a little planning goes a long way in preventing stings and keeping everyone comfortable around the hive.
1. Clear boundaries keep everyone safe
Your Alvéole beekeeper will choose a hive location that’s tucked away from busy foot traffic, reducing the chance of accidental interactions.
We recommend creating a secure perimeter, such as a small fence, railing, or natural barrier, to clearly mark the hive’s space and discourage unplanned approaches.
2. Signage helps educate and reassure
Educational signs are a simple, effective way to let tenants and visitors know there’s a beehive nearby. Alévole provides safety signages in its packages. These signs can share the gentle nature of bees, tips for safe coexistence, and the benefits they bring to your community.
3. Encourage calm, respectful behaviour
Moving slowly, avoiding swatting, and staying out of the bees’ flight path are easy ways for tenants and visitors to coexist peacefully with their winged neighbours.
What to do if someone gets stung
In the rare event that a sting occurs:
-
Follow basic first aid (remove the stinger if visible, wash the area, and apply a cold compress).
-
If there are any signs of a severe allergic reaction, such as difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or throat, or dizziness, call emergency services immediately.
-
Once the situation is stable, email support@alveole.buzz with the following details:
-
Who was stung?
-
Their contact information
-
Date and time of the incident
-
Circumstances — where it happened and what was occurring at the time
-
Providing these details will help us investigate and, if needed, make adjustments to further improve safety on site.
